Despite the near freezing tempatures, snow showers and windy conditions nearly 20 volunteers showed up for the trail workday at Walnut Woods - Stockdale Park in Liberty. This group was able to bench cut a large portion of the trail that volunteers had cleared corridor for on previous workdays.
The goal is to have a 2-3 mile loop open by late spring before the greening vegetation makes trail building too difficult. This trail will be a first for Liberty and should give local mountain bicyclist and hikers a "home trail".
If you would like to learn more about these trails you can contact visit the Blog for details and volunteer opportunities.

The KCMO Citywide Trails Plan, administered by the city’s Planning and Development Department, will guide the development and maintenance of a citywide trails system for pedestrian, bicyclist and equestrian use. The plan will define major corridors that will provide basic north/south, east/west connections within the city and to a larger, regional system. The system will not only serve as a recreation resource to residents and visitors, but also as an alternative transportation corridor.
The Plan will also include the following key components to ensure effective trails development:
-
Design standards and criteria for use of on-street and off-street facilities
-
Funding and maintenance options to ensure a sustainable system
-
Policy recommendations to facilitate plan implementation
-
Priority projects to enable coordinated, phased implementation.
On April 3rd between 4-7 pm another Public Meeting will be held in the Northland to further refine and develop the recommendations to complete the comprehensive trails plan. The meeting will be held at the Shoal Creek Patrol Station - 6801 NE Pleasant Valley Rd.
