The Gladstone City Council received an update on the long-awaited bicycle and pedestrian trail system project at the Monday, July 13, meeting. According to Public Works Director Chuck Williams, the North Antioch Road trail that will be on the west side of the roadway from approximately Northeast 72nd Street to Happy Rock Park is currently advertising for bids with a scheduled bid opening of Thursday, July 30. The contract is expected to be awarded in early August, and actual work will begin soon after. The project will also include a bridge over Shoal Creek and a trail connector through Happy Rock Park to Missouri Highway 1. A second portion of Gladstone’s trail system, set to be located on the east side of Highway 1 from approximately Northeast 67th Terrace to the south side of Shoal Creek, is being tweaked by staff to address final suggestions from the Missouri Department of Transportation. Bidding for the project is anticipated to open in early fall.
