The 20th Annual Smithville Lake National Public Lands Cleanup Day will be held on Saturday, September 12th, 2009. National Public Lands Cleanup Days purpose is to "showcase the Nation's public lands and the importance of protecting the natural resources through responsible use and volunteerism.” At Smithville, the event will be removing litter from the shoreline that has accumulated during the recreation season. This activity improves the appearance of Smithville Lake and increases the public’s awareness of the litter problems.
