On July 28, 2011, I met with Kansas City’s Parks Development Review Committee. I presented this request.
As it is known that land available for equestrian use is disappearing at an alarming rate, on behalf of Northland Trails & Greenways, and equestrians in Kansas City and neighboring cities, I ask this committee to consider the following;
Proposition A; I am requesting that an area of Tiffany Springs Park, known as the Matt Quarry, be designated for equestrian use. In addition, I am requesting that an area in the Baseball Complex be designated for equestrian parking.
Proposition B; I am requesting that an area of Hodge Park, lying on the westerly portion of the park, be designated for equestrian use.
Proposition C; I am requesting that Northland Trails & Greenways be allowed to proceed with development and construction of the equestrian portion of the Trails KC corridor trail through Hodge Park and Line Creek Trail in accordance with the Trails KC Plan, as adopted by City Council in ordinance no. 081052 on November 20, 2008.
Respectfully,
Susan D. Magierowski, P.L.S.
Northland Trails & Greenways Equestrian Group Leader
After much discussion, the above propositions passed out of committee. Public hearings and cooperative agreements will come next, as I understand it.
This is a big step in conserving and developing equestrian riding areas in this region.
