On September 30th the Clay County Commission dedicated an additional five miles of new trails at Smithville Lake connecting Sail Boat Cove north to W Highway. The new section brings the total of available trails at Smithville Lake to 11 miles. In addition, the original six miles of trails installed at the lake in 2004 were overlaid with asphalt earlier this month.

Others Projects

The first portion of the Vivion Road Trail is close to being complete. Phase 1 of the trail extends from the Northland Fountain in Gorman Park near North Oak Trafficway to the Backyard Wildlife Demonstration Garden at Troost Road. Planning is underway for Phase 2, which will extend the trail to Highland Avenue. Future plans not yet under design will connect it to the transit station at Antioch Shopping Center. The Vivion Road Trail represents a portion of a bicycle and pedestrian trail connecting the Northland from Riverside to Liberty, and is part of the Northland Trails Vision Plan.

Others Projects

Construction will soon be complete on a trail along NW 64th street from North Chatham Avenue to Highway 9. Future plans call for extending the 64th Street Trail east to connect with Kansas City's sidewalk system. The trail, one of the first to be constructed in Platte County’ as part of the Northland Trails Vision Plan and MetroGreen, was a high priority for the county.

Others Projects

Platte County celebrated the dedication and completion of the Weston Bluffs Trail on July 2. The trail follows Old Bluff Road, connecting downtown Weston to Weston Bend State Park and is approximately 3.2 miles long. Trailhead locations are Weston City Hall and the southeast corner of Weston Bend State Park.
