May 3, 2007 The trail work day was canceled due to the forecast of rain.  A couple of volunteers showed up anyway to install a 6" X 8' pipe in a ditch about 300 feet north of letter "X".  The pipe was set in place and covered over with dirt from the approaches.  The disturbed area was mulched and seeded with grass from neighboring fields.

We then met with Mike Kaullen at the County Parks office, to discuss toilet construction efforts.  Parks expects to start building the toilet on the week of the 14th.

On  April 26, 2007  Sue Magierowski spent 2 hours cutting  1 1/2" PVC pipe into 8 inch lengths to use for toppers for the trail markers on the Smithville Lake Horse and Hiking Trail.

April 19, 2007  Trail Work Volunteers met at Access 23 to perform a survey of trail work needed.  Volunteers traveled in Dave Thompson's Kawasaki Mule from Access 23 to Access 24 on the Shoreline Trail (2.20 miles by GPS) and returned along the Boundary Trail (1.08 miles).  Then we traveled from Access 23 to Access 22 along the Shoreline Trail (3.27 miles) and returned along the Boundary Trail (1.53 miles).  These distances compare within 0.2 miles of distances previously established by GPS and shown on trail maps.  Maintenance or repair items identified include ruts, trees down, trail widening needed, holes, pipes needed, trimming and signs needed.  Other work performed included picking up trash along the trail, and cutting trees that had fallen across the trail, and identifying possible locations for Helispots for which GPS coordinates established.
