Volunteers rode on horseback from Jack Rabbit Bend to Access 24 on the shoreline trail, cutting out trail around a bog on the shoreling near the pipeline, and returning along the boundary trail.  The route was GPS'ed.
Dave Thompson used his Bobcat to lessen the slopes abutting the old roadway.  Dave placed one inch rock ($190) over areas in the new driveways that were in need of rock.  An additional entrance in to the boundary trail was established and rocked over.  Additional excavation was made at the low spot in the roadway in preparation for location the old pipe crossing under the roadway, or for installation of a new pipe, if needed.  Graded areas are in need of seed and mulch.
On April 20th, 2006, seven volunteers met at Jack Rabbit Bend.
  • Located both ends of the existing cross road drainage pipe.  Pipe appears to be an 18 inch ± corrugated metal pipe.  Ends are slightly crimped, but otherwise appears to be in very good condition.  A catch inlet is needed on the west end.
  • Seeded and mulched areas disturbed by grading.
  • Relocated trail markers to lead users into the parking area via the two new trail entrances.  Painted markers and put toppers on them.
On April 27th, 2006 six volunteers met at JackRabbit Bend to build a catch basin over the existing culvert pipe.  Dave Thompson used his Case Uniloader to dig a hole for the catch basin on the west end of the pipe.  Others did excavation by shovel.  Dave Kitchen assembled cinder blocks for the sides of the catch basin. The Dave's set a concrete lid, donated by Sue Magierowski, on top of the blocks.  The finished dimension is about 30 inches by 40 inches.  Dirt was shaped to direct the flow of water into the structure, and away from the outlet of the pipe.
